Cast and crew wanted for Cavan-based film

County Cavan Arts Office has given funding to IFTA-nominated film-makers to produce a film short in county Cavan. The company are now looking for cast and crew to make the film. Is this an opportunity for you?

Film production company,  Souljacker has received support from the County Cavan Arts Office to produce ‘The Gloaming’ — a horror short that will be filmed in Bruskey over a two-day period.

‘The Gloaming’, is an ancient Celtic word meaning twilight. The film will use a hybrid of English and Irish language dialogue, and will be Smith’s directing debut. In the longer term, Souljacker hope this short will garner interest for a feature film.

‘The Begrudgers’ is an entrant in RTÉ’s Storyland 4 competition. Written and directed by Philip Doherty, ‘The Begrudgers’ is a comedy series that was filmed in Cavan. Many of the cast and crew are past or present students/staff members from Cavan Institute. You can see the second webisode now by clicking here.

‘The Bedgrudgers’ has beaten off tough competition to make it to the final six. However, according to Storyland Competition rules, you will only get to see the next episode if  ‘The Begrudgers’ gets enough votes.

Producer/Director, Kevin McCann from Maccana Teoranta is producing a radio documentary for RTE Radio 1 called, ‘New Religions on the Border’.

Kevin’s aim is to produce a documentary that would help to promote an understanding of new religions in the region and the changes that are taking place in our belief system. “Religion, for many years was seen as an identity as well as a belief. Nowadays, more people are choosing their religion as opposed to it being handed down, and immigration has brought us further new faiths,” explained Kevin.

County-wide theatre production gets involved

The county-wide reading initiative, One Cavan One Writer has got teenagers from across county Cavan involved in a drama production of one of  Siobhan Dowd’s novels, ‘Bog Child’. Are you going to get involved?

Twenty young people from across Cavan are involved in the production of ‘Bog Child’. The play has been adapted from the book by Siobhan Dowd of the same name.

The thought-provoking play is set in a border county in Ireland during the Hunger Strike. It tells the story of Fergus, a 17-year-old who just like any other boy of that age wants to concentrate on his A-levels and focus on his future — he wants to go to Scotland to study to become a doctor.

Fergus’ older brother, Joe is  a political prisoner in the Maze prison who has also decided to go on Hunger Strike. This  causes a division in the family.
