A local Cavan woman, Carol Davis is going that ‘extra mile’ to raise money for a breast cancer charity. Nothing unusual in that you might think, but what makes Carol’s fundraiser different is that her ‘extra mile’ is straight up into the sky!
Carol will be 'going the extra mile' for a breast cancer charity
Carol, who lives in Crosserlough is a hot air balloon pilot and plans to fly a small balloon with no basket to an altitude of one mile high to raise funds for The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, a charity supported by the cosmetics company in Ireland.
Carol said, “The type of balloon I shall be flying is known as a hopper. It has no basket and I shall be held in place by just a harness and a small seat approximately twelve inches square. The gas tank is attached to my back on a frame which also supports the burner. In ballooning terms, it is not a record attempt, but to me it is quite daunting, as this type of balloon can be quite scary at times. I would not normally fly this balloon over two thousand feet, so this will be a real challenge for me.”
